At TeacherVA.com, we provide Virtual Assistant training for classroom teachers.

Teaching is a hard, and rewarding, career, but... some days I just want to be called by my first name, you know?!

After 11 years of teaching, I decided to pursue interests outside the classroom.

I wanted to be a TEACHER AND…

It’s a *unthinkable* thought. Being a teacher but also being something else.

People thought I was

CRAY-to-the-Z!

But you probably relate…

  • I was drowning in school work and extracurricular activities.
  • My heart raced when I opened parent emails, and my to-do list got longer with every PD session.
  • Some days I would get to the end of the day and realize that I didn’t talk to another adult…or eat…or use the bathroom.

I felt stuck!

It’s not that teaching was awful. I mean it has it’s days, but every job does (even working for yourself…I’ll tell you what, my new boss can be a real stickler if I don’t set some firm boundaries with her!)

I realized that I was so deep in teaching, that I had made teaching my identity.

Teaching shouldn’t be your identity. It should be part of what makes up who you are, but not the whole thing.

You should be a TEACHER AND…

I needed to find something that would light me up.

The problem with wanting more...

I didn’t even make enough money to do the things I wanted to do.

There were programs I wanted to try, vacations I wanted to go on, and other skills I wanted to learn.

That is when I decided to dive into the online business world.

I will never look at money the same way again!

I spent almost two years learning about online business. I listened to every podcast I could find, brainstormed possible blog and business ideas, and spent time running numbers in an effort to figure out what I needed to make to support my family of 5. After about a year and a half of DIY online business school through obsessive podcast consumption, I stumbled upon virtual assisting.

Learn more about what a virtual assistant does in this blog post series.

As a freelancer and virtual assistant, I use the same skills I used as a teacher in a whole new way + I’m inspired to learn even more tricks!

My teacher salary was steady, but generally unchanging. Now, whether it is $100 or $1000, I feel confident I can make extra money any time I need it.

Now, I’m no longer a classroom teacher, instead I’m teaching teachers how to become virtual assistants.

I’m a TEACHER AND…

  • an avid baker.
  • a confident tractor driver.
  • a first-time horseback rider.
  • a better mother and ‘above average’ wife
  • a CEO
  • a web designer
  • a copywriter
  • an amateur face painter
  • VP of the PTO (yep, I’m one of those moms now!)
  • …and I’m just going to keep adding to that list!

I have the financial freedom and flexible schedule that allows me to pursue my interests outside the classroom, and I want to share that with other teachers who feel like they need something to stimulate their creativity, adventurous spirit, and financial goals.
I'm MORE THAN 'JUST' a TEACHER. (1)

Sometimes all a teacher needs is a fun coffee mug, a jeans day, and a creative outlet.

Working from your home for only 5 hours a week as a VA, you  could easily make $400-$600 a month (on top of your teacher income), so keep that in mind while you’re dreaming about ‘what could be’ during your 22 minute lunches.

  • new flexible classroom seating with matching bookshelves
  • going to the gas station with the good ice + flavor shots!
  • a Barnes and Noble shopping spree
  • an Amazon shopping spree
  • …any shopping spree
  • date nights at good restaurants (maybe even going to a restaurant downtown and ordering an appetizer!)
  • an extra night out with a babysitter who is not a former student

Instead of looking for part-time jobs that take you away from your kids, husband, boyfriend, or 16 cats, invest your time into learning about how you can work from your favorite recliner as a virtual assistant.

What are you waiting for?
